Some things should
just stay in the past
Wystful Days was first started on the 7th of February, 2011. It is a blog about what it was like for me to have grown up in the 70s and 80s with my brother and sister. In addition to a look back at my childhood, I felt that I wanted to leave behind to my children experiences that they may never get to share, as society has moved on to bigger and better things. Some things would probably horrify parents in our more 'enlightened' times, some things may make a comeback, while others are probably still practiced by people around the world.

To clarify that last statement, I spent the first 12 years of my life growing up in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. The rest of it has mainly been in New Zealand where I now live with my wife and child, with a second on its way. So while a lot of the cultural experiences are still there, I fear that my children may never get to grow up with the influences they had on me.

As my memory is very much fallible, I've had to rely on my brother, sister and cousins for their various recollections to help this blog along. Having said that though, I think my brother's memory may be fading as well, especially when it comes to who owns certain Star Wars and Voltron toys.

This blog is the legacy I hope to leave to my kids, so that one day, when they are old enough to read and understand what it is I am waffling on about, they can sit back and laugh their asses off at me.
